hi team,
I am exploring POC options for Pega OCR capabilities on Pega Cloud environment. Below are the queries:
-
I am seeking guidance from experts who have experience in Pega OCR capabilities using Pega Email bots. Are there any limitations/practical challenges in using Pega OCR using Email bots, like extracting data from PNG or Raw images?
-
Did any one use ABBYY FineReader 12 in Pega cloud environment?
Appreciate your feedback and guidance.
Thank you!!

Pega OCR capabilities can be used with Pega Email bots for advanced text analysis of email attachments, including image files. However, the OCR component does not read files directly from a specific path or folder. Instead, it provides an activity where you can input parameters such as file name, base64 file data, and in return, you get the extracted text from the file. There might be limitations in extracting data from complex images or poor-quality scans.

As for ABBYY FineReader, Pega’s integration with ABBYY does not extend to their ICR capabilities nor the version shipped with our product is licensed for this capabilities. Pega Robotic Automation includes the ABBYY Fine Reader Engine to provide OCR capabilities, but it does not provide direct access to the Fine Reader Engine from the automation surface. Communication between Robot Studio and the ABBYY Fine Reader Engine is handled internally. However, the OCR component does not support installation on Windows OOTB.
