Hi,
We are exploring Pega OOTB Archiving and purging as explained here - https://docs.pega.com/bundle/platform-88/page/platform/system-administration/case-archival-expunge-details.html and we are now doing some impact analysis based on below questions before we can adapt this feature:–
- Archival Support to External Schema: If Case type has data connected to schema other than default PegaDATA or External Database, would archiving still work?
- Re-Open Case: If Cases are archived post resolution but not purged from database, can they be re-archived if the cases in Pega is re-opened and resolved?
- Support Archival for Custom Status: Pega case archival supports only Cases with Resolved- * status. Is there any plan/way/scope of customization to accommodate custom status?
- Reading Archived File: I understand Pega can view archived cases but are there any other means (excpet Pega) of reading Archived case data.

- Archival Support to External Schema: Pega’s case archival feature is designed to work with the PegaDATA schema. If a case type has data connected to an external schema or database, it may not be included in the archival process.
- Re-Open Case: Once cases are archived, they cannot be re-opened. The archival process is designed for cases that are resolved and no longer active. If a case is re-opened, it would need to be excluded from the archival process.
- Support Archival for Custom Status: Currently, Pega’s case archival supports only Cases with Resolved-* status. There is no out-of-the-box feature to accommodate custom statuses. However, you could potentially customize this behavior, but it would require significant development effort and is not recommended.
- Reading Archived File: Archived case data is stored in a secondary storage repository and can be accessed for review within Pega. There is no out-of-the-box feature for reading this data outside of Pega.

Reopen cases are not supported by OOTB. However, you can control as MarijeSchillern mentioned. Check this link - Pegasystems Documentation
-
Custom status is available in Infinity 23 onwards - Pegasystems Documentation
In the Archive Cases that are resolved earlier than (in days) field, enter the number of days that a Case must be in the Resolved-* status or a defined custom resolution status before it is eligible for archiving and indexing in Elasticsearch.
