I had updated the portal in my developer operator ID’s accessgroup to UserPortal in the pega community edition and I am stuck. I am not sure how to find my way back to dev studio. Any help of any kind is appreciated

Do you have another Administrator who could change your Access Group definition for you?
@XavierD2 Hi Xavier, There is no way to switch to Dev Studio from the User Portal. Log in as a user with access to Dev Studio, then change the default portal back to Developer.
Thank you for your response. But I don’t have any other administrator who can reset the access group definition for me, since this was in the community trial edition.

The fact being, I am not aware of any such user (and its credentials) who have access to Dev Studio since it was a community trial edition. Could you help me out with any such user?
@XavierD2 according to the Pega Platform: Community Edition page you should be able to contact that team directly.

That is probably your best bet.
