After creating a new operator I login and get an error: You do not have access to the application with alias ‘CarRentals’

Once you have created the operator you must need to provide the alias link from Application Definition.
Application → Definition → Application URL alias (Below the skin rule).
If above scenario does not work, then edit the URL till prweb - https://DemoPegaPractise.com/prweb/

by calling until /prweb, then your access group which drives your allowed grants will lead you to your user portal.
If you want to call the full URL, then your requestors’ access group for PORTAL & BROWSER also needs to have access to the application.
By default it’s prpc:unauthenticated for these 2 requestors and this one has not access to your rental application, leading to the error message you see.
Yet, prpc:unhautenticated has access to the default login process which is PEGA OOTB which will then resolve all which is linked to your user Access Group and you’ll reach your user portal defined in the rental AG.
