I wanted to reach out regarding a challenge I’m facing with uploading a client video walkthrough to Blueprint. The video showcases their current application, which we’re working to modernize, and the file is quite large—195,795 KB in MP4 format.
To address the 20 MB file size limit, I spent considerable time segmenting the video into smaller files under the 20 MB threshold. However, I have now run into another hurdle: Blueprint restricts uploads to a maximum of 15 files, so I am unable to upload the entire walkthrough for analysis.
Could you please advise on how I might get the full video uploaded to Blueprint so we can effectively analyze their existing application? Any suggestions or alternate solutions would be greatly appreciated.
Because of the file size restrictions I tend to use screenshots + the transcript and results have been good, better if you do some manual work and marry up the relevant screenshots and transcript segments in a PDF. I’ve had it on my to-do list for a bit to try and put an agent together to help automate more of that.
Thank you for your suggestion, but I feel like that will take me quite some time to convert screen shots into a PDF & copy paste transcript excerpts, as the video is almost 1 hour.
Hoping there are plans to increase this file type size limit, as most application walkthrough videos are typically 1 hour.
Compress the video to lower the resolution (For e.g., 1080p to 720p or 480p). Since it’s a UI walkthrough, visual fidelity matters less than clarity and audio and screen content will remain intact. This can easily reduce a 195 MB file by 60–80%.
Screen recordings don’t need 60 fps or even 30 fps. Dropping to 15 fps for a UI walkthrough is barely noticeable but can halve the file size.
Re-encode using H.265 (HEVC) instead of H.264. Same visual quality, roughly half the file size. Most modern players support it.
If the walkthrough has no critical narration or important detail, removing the audio track entirely can reduce size noticeably. This involves some dedicated time of yours. But worth trying.
Cut out the idle moments like pauses, loading screens, or repeated navigation. Tools like Snagit or Camtasia can help. This reduces both file size and the number of segments needed. I use Snagit for my personal purpose. It’s really good.
I am not sure if this works, but rather than uploading directly to Blueprint, host the video on google drive, youtube (private/unlisted), Loom (has free tier) and then provide the link to blueprint. It might work. Try it.
Instead of splitting by file size arbitrarily, split by feature area (e.g., Login flow, Dashboard, Reports module). This keeps each segment meaningful and may reduce the total number of files needed if combined with compression.
With the above options you might be able to get output files within size limits and count limits of blueprint.
