Constellation: Add multiple rows to atable at once from a modal Version: Pega Infinity 25.1 (Constellation)

Hi all,

What I want to do

In an approval case, users set up a dynamic number of approver groups. For each group, they should be able to search users (by name, email, or department) and add several users at once.

Data model

  • Case → OrgGroups (embedded list, Data-ApproverGroup)
  • Data-ApproverGroup → Members (embedded list, Data-Approver)
  • Data-Approver → UserRef (data reference, single) / UserList (data reference, list)

OrgGroups is a Repeating view; inside each card, Members is an editable table with “Add/edit records in = Modal”.

What I tried

Setup Result
View + UserRef (single) in modal Works. One row is added and displayed correctly.
View + UserList (multi-select) in modal Only one row is added, showing “–”. Selected users do reach the server, so I expand them into rows when the user clicks “Next”.
Action + post-processing DT The row and selected user exist on the server (Tracer), but nothing appears in the table. Parent is not allowed in the DT.

Questions

  1. Is there a recommended way in Constellation to add multiple rows at once to an embedded table?
  2. With “Action”, why aren’t server-side changes reflected in the table? Is this expected?
  3. Closing the modal triggers pyRefreshData. Is it valid to override it to expand UserList into rows immediately?
  4. Or is a custom DX component the only option?

Thanks in advance!

Ideally, it should be Data Reference (PageList) to add multiple rows at once. If you can source the DataRefernce (PageList) via Data Page, then the user should have an option to select multiple records at once. You can implement Search and Select pattern in Pega to accomplish your requirement.

Thanks, Ramesh!

Using a Data Reference (page list) with Search and select makes sense, and I’m testing that now.

What I’d really like to achieve is this modal-based experience:

  1. Each group card shows its approvers in a table.
  2. The user clicks “+ Add” on that table → a modal opens.
  3. In the modal, the user searches and selects multiple users.
  4. On submit, all selected users appear as rows in that group’s table.

How would you recommend building this in Constellation?

So far, with an embedded table, one modal submission adds only one row, and rows added in post-processing don’t appear in the table. If this flow isn’t feasible out of the box, I’d also appreciate knowing the closest supported alternative.

Thanks again!

Could you please share a screenshot to have more context?

  1. On submit, all selected users appear as rows in that group’s table.
