Supported On-Premesis Kubernetes Versions

My team is trying to evaluate Kubernetes options and we have a requirement to evaluate solutions from multiple vendors. I know OpenShift is a supported platform, and obviously the Open Source version of Kubernetes would be an option, but I’ve been asked if Amazon EKS Anywhere could be used. In looking through your Helm Charts, my guess is no, but could you clarify whether EKS Anywhere (the on-prem version of EKS) could be used.

Thanks.

@RobertM16632053 please could you go through the resolved questions that appear if you do a PSC search?

@casad can you comment about Amazon EKS Anywhere? for OnPremise?

Below is a GenAI-powered tool. All generated answers require validation against the provided references.

According to Pega’s official Platform Support Guide, the following Kubernetes environments are currently supported for Pega deployments:

  • Open-source Kubernetes
  • Amazon Elastic Container Service for Kubernetes (EKS)
  • Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
  • Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE)
  • Red Hat OpenShift

Specifically for on-premises deployments, open-source Kubernetes and Red Hat OpenShift are the primary supported options. While Amazon EKS (the cloud service) is explicitly listed as supported, Amazon EKS Anywhere is not currently mentioned in the official documentation as a supported platform.

For context, Amazon EKS Anywhere is Amazon’s solution for running Kubernetes clusters on-premises. It differs from the standard Amazon EKS in that it’s customer-managed rather than AWS-managed and supports deployment on VMware vSphere and bare-metal infrastructure. It allows organizations to run Kubernetes clusters independently of AWS cloud services while maintaining operational consistency with EKS.

If your team has specific requirements that might be better addressed by Amazon EKS Anywhere, I’d recommend reaching out to your Pega account team or Pega Support for further guidance. They could provide more tailored advice based on your specific implementation needs and might have more recent information about support for EKS Anywhere.

@MarijeSchillern is correct. We do not support EKS Anywhere, but we do support the EKS service on AWS.
