Pega Update from 8.7.3 version to 8.8.x or 23 ?

Our applications are running on Pega 8.7.3 version (initially developed in 8.7.3and later upgraded to 8.7.3) and due to security concerns we need to upgrade to latest versions.

System Configuration is as below

Pega Version: 8.7.3 using UI-Kit.

Application server: Tomcat

Operating System: Linux

DB: Sql Server

On Prem application not cloud.

Need few clarifications for planning the upgrade.

  1. We have 2 options either to update to 8.8.x or pega 23 which is recommended?

  2. Is pega 23 is stable? is it recommended to upgrade from 8.7.3 to 23?

  3. Is it suggestible to update to pega '23 with latest UI-Kit, does pega support UI-Kit in Pega '23?

  4. Is it possible to go with Kubernetes with UI-Kit instead of Cosmos & Constellation server?

  5. Is there a simple way to migrate rules from UI-Kit to Cosmos?

  6. Is it mandatory to use Deployment manager in 8.8.x & 23 version? or manual deployments still supported?

  7. Hazelcast, Elasticsearch, Kafka & Cassandra are inbuilt with Pega 8.8.x or we should get external license?

It is always sueggested to upgrade to latest, hence upgrade to Pega 23 is recommended

    Pega 23 is stable.

    As per my knowledge manual deployments are supported. Using deployment manager is recommended.

  5. Hazelcast, Elasticsearch, Kafka & Cassandra are inbuilt with Pega 8.8.x or we should get external license?
    Beginning in Pega Platform version 8.6, deployments using embedded Cassandra are deprecated, but will still work. Embedded Cassandra is deprecated through Pega Platform version 8.8, Pega Platform '23 and Pega Platform '24.1. In Pega Platform '24.2, deployments on embedded Cassandra will no longer be available. To ensure future compatibility, do not create any new installations using embedded Cassandra.

Embedded Elasticsearch (version 5.6.9) is deprecated.

Beginning in Pega Platform version 8.7, deployments using embedded Kafka are deprecated, but will still work. Embedded Kafka is deprecated in Pega Platform 8.8, Pega Platform '23 and Pega Platform '24.1. In the following release, Pega Platform '24.2, embedded Kafka will no longer be available. To ensure future compatibility, do not create any new installations using embedded Kafka.

Here are few follow up queries.

  1. Pega supports deploying Pega Platform on a client-managed cloud environment by using Kubernetes. Is it possible to go with Kubernetes with UI-Kit instead of Cosmos & Constellation server?

The provided link is to move from UI-Kit to Theme Cosmos. Is there any documentation available to migrate from UI-Kit to Cosmos on constellation server?
