Enabling Traditional UI in Constellation Breaks All Existing Constellation Case Types

Hello! When experimenting with the Traditional UI in Constellation feature set in Pega 24.1, I found that after enabling a landing page from a Traditional UI application, all of my existing Constellation based Case Types were suddenly unable to be edited. They all exist within the Constellation based application and not the Traditional UI application, however they are being treated like Case Types that came from the Traditional UI application.

In an attempt to troubleshoot I also found that when generating a new Case Type within that Constellation application after using Traditional UI in Constellation does not change the outcome, I am still unable to edit it with the error: "Editing traditional Case Types in a Constellation application is not supported and might produce unexpected behaviour or potentially corrupt the Case.

You can edit your Case Type in the traditional application, and the changes will be propagated to the Constellation application automatically."

Is there any known fix to this?

@EmmaP849

Could you please confirm the steps below have been taken?

Hi Team,

Even I am not able to edit existing constellation application case types after enabling traditional UI landing page. If there is any fix for this, kindly let me know.

Thank you for such a quick response @RameshSangili!

I can confirm that those steps were taken.

@EmmaP849

Can you please send me the screenshots or console logs to troubleshoot further?

If that’s not possible(due to confidentiality), the best option is to create an INC ticket and work with the GCS engineer.

Note: as you already found out, modifying traditional Case Types in a Constellation application is not supported. Editing traditional Cases in Constellation might produce unexpected behavior and potentially corrupt the Case. You can edit your traditional Case in the traditional application, and the change will be propagated to the Constellation application automatically.

did you log a support INC for this? Please provide the INC id here.

To address the issue of not being able to edit existing Constellation application case types after enabling the traditional UI landing page, you can follow these steps: In the navigation pane of App Studio, click Settings > Traditional UI in Constellation. On the Traditional UI in Constellation page, click Generate assets. This will help in generating the necessary artifacts for your traditional case. Additionally, ensure that you refresh the routing table in Dev Studio by clicking the name of the application in the header, then clicking Definition, and in the Advanced section, click Generate routing table, and then click Save. This should make the traditional case available in your application and allow you to edit the existing Constellation application case types.

While you can run traditional Case Types in a Constellation application there are some restrictions such as not being able to include localized values from Cases in the built on application. Additionally landing pages created in Theme Cosmos as hybrid pages are not supported. If you are facing specific issues it may be beneficial to check the configurations or consider the limitations outlined in the documentation.
