With the help of an Input Format rule, we can configure formatted inputs in Constellation without having to build a separate DX component for this type of requirement. The rule allows us to define a specific structure for the value entered into a field.

Requirement
In this example, the Target Reference Number needs to follow a specific format. Instead of allowing users to enter the value in any structure, the field should follow a predefined input pattern.
Creating the Input Format Rule
An Input Format rule is available under the User Interface category.
The rule allows us to define the expected structure of the input. For example, 0 represents a number and * allows any character. We can also include fixed text and optional characters as part of the format.
Applying the Input Format to the Property
Add the Target Reference Number property to the required Constellation view as usual.
Then, open the property and go to Display and validation. From the Input format field, select the required Input Format rule and save the property.
This OOTB rule helps simplify structured data entry in Constellation, providing a configuration-based approach without the need for additional custom UI development for this type of requirement.
