Compatibility of Pega 8.8.1 with Postgres 15.6 and 15.12

Our org DBAs have informed us that the Postgres DB across the org needs to be upgraded to Postgres 15.12.

Our application is still running on Pega 8.8.1 (still working on planning to upgrade to v24.

As per the Pega documentation, it is mentioned that Pega can use until Postgres 14.

Can you please let us know if we can go ahead with the Postgres upgrade and still be on Pega 8.8.1?

@Ramakrishna1985 please could you provide the documentation you found regarding the support until Postgres 14?

Below is the documentation resources available on the PSC:

8.8 is in Extended support through October 30, 2025. Extended Support means clients should immediately update to the latest minor version (8.8.5) to benefit from ongoing security and reliability improvements. Clients continue to receive support but need to update to the latest minor version to resolve non-production issues that they might experience.

According to the Platform Support Guide :

The support Lifecycle of a database depends on vendor Lifecycle and is not tied to a Pega Platform release. Approximately a year after a vendor releases a new version of a database, Pega extensively tests the database version against the latest Pega Platform release.

Pega will no longer undertake the certification of vendor platforms against Pega products and versions in Extended Support.

For more information about Standard and Extended Support, see Pega Extended Support program.

Pega 8.8.1 was released December 2022. It has been in extended support since March 2024.

Postgres 14 was released September 2021 (End of Vendor support is Q4 2025 so Pega 8.8 is still supported on this)
Postgres 15 was released October 2022 but Pega would not have tested this release against the latest Pega release until October 2023. Pega 8.8.1 would not have been certified against it but generally, Extended Support covers issues with officially supported configurations. Since PostgreSQL 15 is officially supported with Pega 8.8.1 for WAR installations, Extended Support should cover issues related to this specific configuration.

The Platform Support Guide indicates that PostgreSQL 14 is fully supported with Pega 8.8.1 without the WAR installation limitation. If you have concerns about the WAR installation requirement for PostgreSQL 15.x, upgrading to PostgreSQL 14.17 instead might be a safer alternative.

As you’re aware it’s important that your version gets updated, as per the Pega Ifinity Patch Calendar

Note: The following releases have moved into extended support and no longer receive patches.
8.8 (Final 8.8.5 patch delivered 15 May 2024)
